Another question for Glen!

When the hign beam switch is on my 2005 PX150, I have no light in my display, gas gauge doesn't work, and signal lights are extremely weak, almost not working at all. If I switch to low beam, display light, signals & gas gauge works, but no headlight whatsoever....

do you have any idea if it's a fuse or a short?

Jacqui,

First thing I would like you to look at is the battery..is it charged?? and how are the connections. if the battery is low or in need of a charge it will cause all kinds of electrical "ghosts".

Next check the main fuse box to the left of the battery (at the 9 o.clock possition) I doubt there is a problem here but it never hurts to look and make sure.

If all looks ok in that dept the next thing I would investigate is the possibility of a short or loose connection somewhere in the headset.

Did this problem just happen or have you noticed this sort of thing comming on?? small odd faults or odd component function over the past few days weeks?

I have seen on a few of the new PX models wire harness chafing that has caused some very odd problems like what you have described in your post.

This is a very common problem on the P-Series from day 1 back in 1977. The space given to the main harness where it exits the frame to where it enters the handlebars is very small and tends to chafe the harness housing and "chew" at the wires. The new P-Series has a fluid disc brake on the front so the passage for the cables and wire harness is even more congested with the addition of the brake line.

I would suggest that you bring it to a dealer to have their service dept take a look at it as it will mean pulling the handle bars off and pulling the harness up to check for damage. The switch harnesses will also have to be inspected for damage.

Let me know what the problem was so I can file it the repair rolodex in my head.

Ciao for now

Thanks Glen. We put it on the charger when we got home last night. Will check the battery connections and fuses today. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Glen, it appears that the low beam was burnt out, perhaps it's a safety feature that the display doesn't work to make you aware of it? I replaced it with an H4 55/100W from my BMW for now, since nothing's open today. I'll have to stay on low beam so I don't melt the plastic lens cover. smile

Don't you know? Side stands aren't necessary (so I'm told).

On a motorcycle they sure are, motorcycles don't have center stands like our scooters do.

it has a centre stand, but you try lifting a 560pound bike on to a centre stand that 3 inch to long cause bike been lowered 3inch, all by your self every time you stoplaughing
takes two people get it on stand not going carry a passenger 24/7 just so can get on stand at gas stationconfused
